The structure of the program:
Week 1: Introduction – Health is Health
What is health? In week one you will consider what health means to you as an individual, as well as setting some wellness goals to get you started on your eight week journey. As a group, we will discuss the links between our physical and mental health and share how we are more likely to feel fulfilled, healthy and happy when we look after both. I will share some introductory information on making healthy dietary choices and why restrictive diets don’t work long term. A plan will be shared for the rest of the program.
Our dietary choices play a huge part in our overall health and wellbeing. This week I will be sharing convenient ways to prioritise nutritious, whole food. We will discuss how you can best balance your plate in order to keep your blood sugar stable and provide your body with key nutrients, as well as explaining some of the other factors which influence our dietary choices and why. We will delve into more detail on specific macro and micronutrients and their properties, leaving you with an awareness of the nutrients needed each day and their role.
Recapping last week’s session we will discuss portion sizes and the factors that influence these, before chatting about meal preparation / planning during a busy working week. The main focus for this session will be snacking and mindful eating, as we discuss some healthy snack alternatives, alongside whether our snacking is based around hunger or a habit. I will be sharing the importance of mindful eating and the impact this can have on our level of fullness, our digestion and our health as a whole. This session will encourage you to see snacking as necessary fuel; however help you to rethink unnecessary eating.
Our Gut Health has a strong influence on our health as a whole; from digesting and absorbing key nutrients needed for optimal health, to supporting the immune system function at its best! Those tiny strains of bacteria which live mainly in our large intestine have a special role to play too. As 95% of our feel good hormone serotonin is produced in the gut, the health of these bacteria can help regulate our mood and happiness. During this week’s session we will discuss why it is so important to prioritise gut health, and provide simple, manageable tools to help you to do so.
Week 5: Body Image and positive relationships with food
Unfortunately, we have grown up surrounded by diet culture, along with social media sharing unrealistic representations of a woman’s body, making it almost impossible not to compare. This week is all about finding ways to prioritise compassion and self acceptance. We will discuss the fact that we are so much more than our body’s outer shell, and that prioritising our health, irrespective of our appearance is always a good idea. We will discuss the importance of making more intuitive choices when it comes to our diet, along with reassessing the narrative we have around food, and learning to trust our body and its internal needs. No restriction, just nourishment.
Puberty, Periods, Pregnancy, Childbirth, Menopause…we should congratulate ourselves as women; we’re faced with a lot! Unfortunately there is a lack of education when it comes to many of these stages of life, which at times leaves us feeling out of tune with our bodies. During this session we will delve into some of these areas. We will discuss how to live more in tune with our menstrual cycles and honour the hormonal fluctuations that come our way, alongside discussing menopause and how we can approach / undertake this stage of life feeling prepared, not scared.
Week 8: We are individual!
The classroom
Sessions will take place live via Zoom every Wednesday (September 14th – November 2nd) with a maximum of 8 women. I am keeping the group small in order to create a likeminded community and a safe space for sharing. There will be time and space for discussion throughout each session, however if you’d rather, you are welcome to sit quietly present and learn. Relevant handouts and resources will be sent each week.
Join me on a journey to make health a main priority. I can’t wait to share this experience with you.
