‘Are you bikini body ready?’
If you have a bikini, and a body, you are ready!
Holidays are a time to relax and enjoy yourself. A time to try local food, switch off from daily to do’s and have fun! While I wholly encourage a healthy diet and lifestyle, it is important to enjoy your time away, putting no rules or restrictions around what you can and can’t eat, but enjoying yourself with no pressure or guilt, after all, a healthy lifestyle is all about balance.
It is okay for some of our healthy habits to go out of the window while we are away, but often, we come home feeling rubbish, like we need to go on a strict diet or spend the next few days in the gym. No thankyou!
To avoid that feeling on your return, and with summer holiday season in full swing, I thought it would be a good idea to share some ‘Healthy Holiday’ tips which could help you to stay healthy but still enjoy yourself this summer.
Stay hydrated
Drinking lots of water is so important to avoid dehydration on holiday, especially when it is hot. Drinking water can prevent headaches, increase energy levels and support healthy digestion – something that is often an issue when we are away from the comfort of our own bathroom. As well as this, quite often we confuse thirst with hunger and rather than reaching for a glass of water we opt for another snack. Drinking water will to keep you hydrated as well as possibly prevent some unnecessary overeating.
Try to maintain healthy sleeping habits
We all have late nights on holiday, however getting a solid 8 hours sleep will help you to reset and provide you with more energy to get up and explore! A good night sleep also makes it more likely to make healthy food choices the following day. If you keep up good sleeping habits while you’re away, you’ll come home feeling well rested and less like you need another holiday!
This doesn’t mean you have to get up early every morning to fit in a session at the hotel gym! Try making healthy choices like opting for the stairs instead of the lift or walking to your destination instead of getting the bus. You could even try new things that you don’t usually have time to do at home, like yoga.
Relax
Prioritise ‘you time’. Catch up on the things that you enjoy which you don’t always have time to do. Listen to a podcast or try a new book. Give your brain the chance to switch off, enjoy your company and relax.
Consider a protein packed breakfast
A breakfast rich in protein works to keep your blood sugar levels balanced and helps to keep you feeling fuller for longer. Opting for this protein packed breakfast on holiday will set you up for a day of exploring and could prevent the mid morning urge for something sweet.
Enjoy the excitement and variety of eating out and feel no guilt about your food choices. Listen to your body. If you’re body is craving a ‘healthy choice’ go for a side of vegetables rather than chips, and don’t be afraid to ask the waiter questions or for more information on what is in a certain dish if you need it.
Most importantly, have a great time!
We look forward to our holidays all year long – ‘I can’t wait to get home and get back to work’ said no one ever! Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, relax and enjoy it!
